What do German Sub, German Dub and English Sub mean?
Choose German Dub for German voices, German Sub for Japanese voices with German subtitles, or English Sub for Japanese voices with English subtitles, when offered. Select the episode's language/source or the matching Jellyfin library; changing the menu language does not change the video.

Choose the video version, not just the menu language
The language label describes the offered video. These are the three common choices:

Sub means subtitled; Dub means dubbed into another spoken language. A flag alone does not distinguish the two German versions. On the website's source selection, the German flag with the subtitles icon means German Sub; the German flag with the microphone icon means German Dub.
An episode may offer only some of these versions. You cannot select a version that has no source.
Get the audio and subtitles you want
- Find your anime, then open the season and episode.
- On the website, find the source buttons around the player. Choose a source from the language row you want: German flag plus microphone for German voices, or a subtitles row for Japanese voices with translated text.
- Start the source and listen to a spoken scene. Check the subtitles too; the menus being English or German does not prove that the video is correct.
- If the wrong version starts, return to the source selection and choose another offered source in the same desired language row. Do not change the app's server address.
- In Streamyfin, Swiftfin or another Jellyfin-compatible client, return to the library selection and open the library for the desired language version. Then find the anime and episode inside that library. See Jellyfin setup if you have not connected yet.
The official apps present their own language/source controls. Use the playback guide for your client; the website's flag-and-icon layout is not an instruction for every app.
Keep a preferred language for later
When you hear the intended voices and see the intended subtitles, you have chosen the right version. Use playback preferences to save a preference where supported. A preference chooses among available sources; it does not translate a video or guarantee that the next episode has the same options.
Want English menus but German audio? That is fine: interface language and video language are separate choices.
Missing, fixed or incorrectly labelled subtitles
- No button in the language row: that episode currently has no offered source for that version. Check another episode to see whether the limitation affects only this one; follow the anime for the language releases you want.
- Subtitles remain after turning captions off: they may be burned into the picture. The player's subtitle menu cannot remove or translate them. Choose another offered video version if one exists.
- A source under German Dub plays Japanese voices: try another German Dub source. If the label is wrong, report the episode with season, episode, language row, source name and what you actually heard.
- Correct language but black screen or endless loading: use playback troubleshooting; changing menu language will not repair the stream.
