Why is my progress different on another device?
Use the same FireAnime account on both devices, then pause and leave a supported player normally before checking the other device. Account progress and watchlist entries can follow your sign-in, but guest browser history, local settings and downloaded video files are not the same data. Signing in on the website can import eligible saved positions from that browser, not every kind of guest history.
Covered in this guide: Website in a browser · FireAnime for Android · FireAnime Desktop · FireAnime TV · FireAnime for LG webOS · Jellyfin-compatible apps · Streamyfin · Swiftfin · Findroid
First identify what is missing
| What you expected on device B | What actually needs to transfer |
|---|---|
| Resume at the same time | A playback-position report saved to the same FireAnime account |
| The same Watching/Planned list | The account’s watchlist status; also check the selected status filter |
| Guest viewing history from device A | Data stored in that browser/app, not automatically available on every device |
| A downloaded video | The file must be downloaded on device B too |
| The same theme, source or autoplay choice | A local client preference, not necessarily account-synchronized |
Use a player that reports progress and make sure both devices have internet access. Different library views or a local checkmark alone do not prove that the saved account position is wrong.
Compare the same episode on both devices
- On both devices, open the account/profile area and compare the actual username, not just the avatar or the fact that both show “signed in.” Desktop can have several saved accounts; check the active one.
- On device A, open the exact anime, season and episode in an integrated player. Play beyond the opening minute so there is a meaningful resume position.
- Pause and leave the episode normally while still online. Do not force-stop the app or disconnect the network immediately afterward.
- On device B, reopen Home/Continue Watching and check the same season and episode. Reopen the episode to request its saved position if the old page has remained open.
- If the watchlist is what is missing, open the website watchlist using that account and select the correct status tab. That distinguishes a list filter from missing data.
- If it still differs, record the episode, the expected time and the time actually shown. Check login/session problems if account requests fail.
Do not test by playing the same episode on both devices simultaneously: both players can report positions, making it harder to see which report you are checking.
What happens to website guest progress?
The website stores guest episode history and playback positions in that browser. A private window, another browser profile or another device has different local storage.
When you sign in on the website, it attempts to import eligible locally saved episode positions from that browser into the account. This is not a promise to reconstruct every old “seen” checkmark, external-player visit or deleted browser record. Sign in on the original browser/device while its data still exists, then check the episode on your account.
On a shared browser, local progress may come from more than one person. Check it before assuming that everything imported belongs to you. Clearing browser data or uninstalling before checking can remove the only local copy; it is not a repair step.
Official apps versus compatible clients
Official apps use the FireAnime account you sign into. A Jellyfin-compatible client must connect to the correct FireAnime-compatible server and use the same FireAnime credentials; check that setup here. A different server’s library is not your FireAnime history.
Progress reporting depends on the client/player and whether it could contact the server. Do not assume a completed offline session has already uploaded merely because you later opened the app. Check the account position online before deleting local files.
AniList/MyAnimeList tracking is a separate outbound integration. Relinking those services does not repair a wrong FireAnime account or move downloaded files.
What should happen?
After a successful progress report, both devices signed into the same account can request the saved episode position. Their layouts and local files can still differ. A very short or already-completed episode may not show a resume prompt; see Continue Watching.
Still different? Use the smallest useful report
For support, name both clients/platforms, the episode, whether you were a guest or signed in, the approximate test time and the two displayed positions. Say whether the website account view matches either device. Do not include passwords, tokens or screenshots of unrelated private history.
A website episode-thumbnail checkmark can be local display history, while Continue Watching uses account progress when signed in. Treat those as different signals. Never clear all data, delete an account or remove downloads just to resolve a mismatch.
