Which FireAnime package do I need for LG webOS, and how do I install it?
Choose the modern IPK for webOS 24–26 or the legacy IPK for webOS 4.x–23 on the webOS page. Installation and updates use LG Developer Mode and a webOS installation tool, not an Android APK.
Covered in this guide: FireAnime for LG webOS — LG webOS
Choose the package before setting up the TV
This method installs FireAnime directly on an LG webOS television. It requires a computer, the TV on the same local network and an LG Developer account. It is not an Android APK or an installation through the TV's web browser.
Find the TV's webOS version in its system/About information; menu names vary by generation. Match the operating-system version, not just the television's purchase year:
| TV system | Package on the FireAnime download page |
|---|---|
| webOS 24–26 | Download modern IPK |
| webOS 4.x–23 | Download legacy IPK |
| Older, unknown or outside these ranges | Check the exact model/version with support before installing. |
Install one package. Modern and legacy are alternatives for different TV generations, not two apps to run together. If you are using an Android/Fire TV stick plugged into the LG, follow the stick's setup instead.
Install with a computer and webOS Dev Manager
Prepare LG Developer Mode
- On the TV, install Developer Mode from LG's app store. Open it and sign in with your LG Developer account, not FireAnime.
- Turn on Dev Mode Status and let the TV restart.
- Reopen Developer Mode, enable Key Server, and keep its displayed network address and passphrase private. LG's Developer Mode guide explains these screens.
Send the FireAnime package to the TV
- On your computer, install webOS Dev Manager, using the release for your computer's operating system. This is a separate community installation tool, not FireAnime.
- Add the television in the manager. Give it a short Device Name; enter the TV's current local network address in Address. For LG Developer Mode use port 9922, Username
prisonerand Authentication → Dev Mode, with the passphrase shown on the TV. - Complete the manager's connection flow. Confirm that the TV's installed-app list is readable before proceeding.
- Open FireAnime's LG download section on the computer and save the modern or legacy IPK from the table above.
- In the manager's apps view, choose Install and select that downloaded
.ipkfile. Wait for installation to complete. - Open FireAnime from the TV's app launcher. Use the remote to open an anime and test an episode; use official-app QR/code sign-in for your account.
The manager's field names above are English. They describe LG's local device connection; do not enter a FireAnime server URL or your FireAnime password in those fields.
Confirm the installation
FireAnime appears in the TV launcher and opens a remote-controlled catalog. If the icon appears but the app is blank, verify your chosen modern/legacy package before repeating the installation.
Update it without starting over
- In FireAnime, open Settings → Application updates → Check now. Note the installed and offered versions.
- Download the matching IPK on your computer.
- Connect the manager to the same TV and use Install with the new IPK over the existing app.
- Relaunch FireAnime and check the installed version.
The TV can notify you and open a link, but cannot install this sideloaded IPK itself. Do not uninstall first just because an update is available.
Connection, expiry and package problems
- Computer cannot connect: Check that both devices share the local network, the TV is awake, and the manager uses the TV's current address. Guest-network isolation can prevent device-to-device access.
- Authentication fails: Check Developer Mode and Key Server, then re-enter the displayed passphrase exactly. An LG account password and this passphrase are different.
- The app disappeared: Check Developer Mode's remaining session. Extend it while still active and online; disabling/expiring Developer Mode can remove sideloaded apps. LG session rules
- The wrong package was selected: Download the matching generation and install it over the existing app. Do not install both variants.
- Developer Mode is not an option for you: Use a supported device you already have. A generic “Smart TV” label is not enough to choose a package.
