How do I update the app without installing the wrong package?
Use your official app’s update feature or the matching FireAnime download page. Install the same product for the same operating system over the existing installation; a normal update is different from uninstalling and starting over.
Covered in this guide: FireAnime for Android · FireAnime Desktop · FireAnime TV · FireAnime for LG webOS · Streamyfin · Swiftfin
Before updating
Finish important downloads and stop playback first. Note your current app version and make sure you know how to sign in again. A normal update is installed over the same app; do not uninstall it first.
Choose the instructions for your actual client. An update to the website does not install a new Android, TV, webOS or desktop package on your device.
Update your client
Official Android phone/tablet app
- Open the Settings tab and scroll to App → Check for updates.
- If Update available names a new version, choose Yes to download it.
- Keep the app open until the Android installer appears. If asked, allow this app to install unknown apps through the offered Open Settings action, then return.
- Confirm installation in Android and reopen FireAnime. The version appears at the bottom of Settings.
Official Android TV / Google TV / Fire TV app
- With the remote, open Settings → App → Check for Updates.
- Accept the offered update and keep FireAnime TV open while it downloads.
- Complete the device's APK installation prompt. If permission is needed, allow installation only for the relevant app and remove the permission afterwards if not needed.
- Reopen FireAnime TV and check Version at the top of Settings. If the updater cannot complete, use the correct TV APK procedure.
Windows or Linux desktop
The desktop controls are in English.
- Open Settings → Updates → Check for updates.
- If available, choose Download update. Once the package is ready, choose Install update and follow the installer instructions.
- If the action is Open download page, the app is handing the download to your browser; it has not installed anything. Choose your matching package on the desktop page.
- Restart/open the installed app and check Settings → Updates → Application version.
Automatic update checks controls checking for a release, not silent automatic installation.
LG webOS
- Open Settings → Application updates → Check now in the TV app.
- If an update is offered, download the matching modern or legacy IPK on your computer.
- Install that IPK over the existing app. Opening a download link on the TV does not install an IPK.
- Relaunch FireAnime and check Installed in the updates section.
Streamyfin, Swiftfin and other compatible clients
Use the app's original store or publisher, not a FireAnime APK. On iPhone/iPad or Apple TV, open the client's App Store listing and choose Update if offered. Client versions and FireAnime website releases are separate.
Confirm that the update finished
The reopened app displays the new version. Check that the catalog opens, sign-in still works and existing local downloads can be opened. A completed installer download alone does not mean the installed version changed.
If the updater fails
- No update / You are up to date: This client has no newer offered package; another platform's version number is not the target for yours.
- Could not check for updates: Check connectivity and service status, then retry. This message does not establish that you are up to date.
- Download failed: Check storage and the connection. On desktop use Retry download; an installation failure instead offers Retry install.
- Signature, package conflict or wrong-platform warning: Stop and verify the original download source and package type. Do not uninstall to force it through: that can lose local data. Ask support with installed/offered versions and the exact message.
