The upcoming Tanuki to Kitsune (translated as “Racoon-dog and Fox”) anime published a new key visual today. The artwork features Tanuki and Kitsune enjoying some rice balls with their forest friends and the phrase “Everyday is special with you around” in Japanese.The series is scheduled to broadcast in Japan as part of TV Tokyo's “Animori!” programming block beginning on October 4.

Atamoto publishes the original Tanuki to Kitsune comic on X (formerly Twitter), and FrontierWorks also publishes a print version in Japan, with 11 volumes and 3 picture books released for the series to date. The series has sold over 1.3 million copies in Japan, and was previously adapted into a web anime with direction by Tomohiro Tsukimisato and animation by Lesprit which streamed on YouTube in 2018.Tommy Hino directs the new Tanuki to Kitsune TV anime at animation studio Akatsuki Media Studio, with scripts by Rika Kihara.Described as a “warmhearted and soothing” comic, the story of Tanuki to Kitsune follows the exploits of a slightly airheaded racoon-dog and a slightly mischievous fox who live together in the mountains and who are very close friends.
